Gingerbread Construction Company

July 4, 2014

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. Cheesy scramble eggs, smoked bacon, crispy Cornflakes, or fresh fruit- I simply love them all! But if you’re not a breakfast person, you may enjoy the Gingerbread Construction Company in Wakefield and Winchester, Massachusetts. Actually, that’s a lie; I guarantee you will love their heavenly cupcakes they call muffins.

Lying opposite Lake Quannapowitt Walkway is a tan castle-like building with grand windows and a cutesy gingerbread man on top serving as the eatery’s mascot. The Gingerbread Construction Company specializes in gourmet baked goods, such as gingerbread, cookies, muffins (plus, muffin loaves), brownies, Italian biscotti, coffee, and espresso. They also make special holiday goodies, including gingerbread houses for Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and St. Patrick's Day.

Of course, the most requested item on the menu is their incredible muffins. While the Gingerbread Construction Company does serve traditional muffins (such as, blueberry and corn) you need to order the muffins that feature their savory-sweet cream cheese frosting (like, strawberry shortcake and pumpkin).

Gingerbread Muffin
This right here is the Gingerbread Construction Company’s signature muffin, Gingerbread. This muffin was perfectly moist, bursting with yummy cream cheese frosting, and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. Although their muffins are far from nutritious, I like to think they’re a balanced meal because they’re called a “muffin.”

Our muffins
I bought two more muffins for my friends whom I met later that day at a restaurant. When I opened the box to give my friends their desserts, our waiter walked by and squealed with jealousy. Christen had the Coffeecake Muffin and Cheyenne ate the Chocolate Dream Muffin. They both said theirs were mouthwatering-good.

Inside Gingerbread
The inside of the Gingerbread Construction Company is equally as adorable as its exterior. Their baked goods are showcased underneath florescent lights, and they have countless stuff animals that are so fluffy you’re gonna die.

Because there is limited seating, I would recommend eating across the street on one of the lake’s benches. If you like people-watching, there is plenty to see- doggie dates, children playing on Col. Connelly Playground, the motorcycle gang at Honey Dew’s, and people in sweats exercising. Although I have been working hard this summer to stay in shape, I think it’s important to remember food is not the enemy. There is no such thing as good food or bad food. Everything is healthy for you in moderation, so have the occasional splurge. Life is WAY too short to not eat that muffin!
